The nanometer scale used to market transistor size is actually not what it says it is. Actual tranzistor sizes have stalled at around 14nm if i m not mistaken, but other improvements and optimisations have made it so that performance has increased despite the size not changing, and I guess to make it somehow easier to compare, they just do some math and basically equate the added performance to what it would mean if the only thing that continued to change/shrink was transistor size if that makes sense

Samsung's macro mode is essentially using the ultra wide for its smaller aperture but even that ultra wide lens is already increasing the aperture on the recent models. The Huawei P60 started having variable aperture some years back and I am waiting for Samsung to implement this before changing my phone.

After watching the duo short, I was literally just waiting for when he uploads this and there it is.

You nailed one thing most people aren’t talking about: using this one-handed while folded open is going to suck. Part of what makes the iPhone form factor work so well is that you can comfortably hold and use it with one hand. The Duo is an awesome device, but there are some real tradeoffs. The cameras are worse than the iPhone Pro, it’s heavier than the Pro Max, and in “phone mode” you actually get less screen real estate than an iPhone Pro. I think the Duo is incredibly cool. I’m just not convinced the everyday experience is better than having a great phone and a separate tablet.

A folding phone? How innovative. If only someone had thought of that four years ago

The aperture adjustment is nothing at all like a feature to slow a router down. The sensor is tiny so for context adjusted to full frame: f/1.48 = ~f/5.2 f/1.8 = ~f/6.3 f/2.8 = ~f/9.8 f/4 = ~f/14 Now when is this useful to adjust? Obviously for when you want to shoot at a certain slow shutter speed without overexposing the image, so for example for smooth waterfalls. It can also generate a cool starburst effect. Now generally if the f number is too low the image also loses a lot of sharpness in subjects that are further away or too close from the main subject in favour of bokeh. However f5.2 isn't a very low number however if you're shooting landscape and multiple subjects at different lenghts from you stopping down will increase sharpness. Also, things like edge softness and vignetting are issues that appear at a too low f number, this is aggresively corrected computationally but it's better to just not have these issues for the best results as reducing vignetting computationally adds noise and softness can't be accuratly corrected. Sure it's more niche on phone cameras than on dedicated cameras, obviously. But saying it is like a feature to slow down a router is crazy....

As an iPhone user since the original, I didn't even consider the Duo and went right straight for the Z Fold 8. I see the Duo does things nearly identical to the Fold and it's not surprising. I'll keep using my 17 Pro Max along with my Z Fold 8.

Just for perspective....samsung fold 8 base version is better than iphone duo in specs...so dont even bother comparing it to the fold 8 ultra. Only thing that caught my eye is the page transitioning effect. Not enough to get me to swap from fold 8 though. The fold 8 screen ratio is also larger aka larger screen while still being completely lightweight. Dont let that sway your decision though, just how I like team galaxy overall, you may feel the same about apple. Completely understandable, just make sure you are getting your moneys worth.

Why? - crease is identical to Samsung and Oppo, they even used the same laser scanning and infill technique as Oppo. - Samsung no longer uses vapor chamber for foldables because they switched to graphite sheets for thinness. And Samsung didn't have thermal issues for a decade or more, unlike Apple who does not use PPS charging and does not support battery bypass. - let's not forget that Samsung did under-screen camera in a foldable 5 years ago and gave up on it, Apple didn't quite learn from that.

Samsung copies a lot, but most Samsung users are unaware. iPhone decides to do theirs in 2026, and made it better than the original including the Samsung version and others out there. iPhone has the most durable smartphones ever, they last for years and still run smoothly. Samsung products wear out easily, and doesn’t have the same durability just like other android phones.

You mention the glossy outer display as a bad thing, but the bad compromise IMO is the image and color compromise we get on the inner screen due to that matte screen

Love iPhone, but Oppo Find N6 has the best folding screen technology out there today. It’s just a shame that we will never see it here in the good old USA
