My first car was $1200. What a time we live in.

it’ll obviously be boring for those already with the 16-17 pros, it makes the biggest difference for those with older iphones, we’re at a point where unless you have the disposable income to upgrade every year, it’s worth upgrading every 4-5 years to actually experience a big upgrade.

Glad to see people realising we don’t necessarily need to upgrade our phones yearly. I have placed a preorder but I am coming from a 15 Promax. I deliberately skipped the 17 despite the ‘new look’ for a list of reasons. And even now, using my current phone, I don’t feel like it’s dated. Before I upgraded to the 15 series, I was on a 12 Promax and didn’t rush for an upgrade, I purchased the 15 Promax knowing it was close to the launch of the 16 line and didn’t feel FOMO when the new one launched. These phone have done me so well with content creation and work, and I am actually just upgrading to give myself a little birthday gift and pat on the back for working so hard the last couple of years. 😅

Your pro vs pro max discussion is spot on. Muscle memory is a bugger for me though. I tried using the 17 pro for a week and I just kept dropping the phone constantly. The camera plateau was also always in the way. The narrower screen also makes the typing experience much worse and the ui feels so cramped. I guess I’ll carry a brick in my pocket once again. Battery life better be really impressive.

I went from a pro max to a pro, had it for three years or more and liked it but went straight back to a pro max next phone I bought. The extra screen size is handy for videos, maps, slightly bigger keyboard whatever. Had no trouble adjusting back up to the larger phone.

That black finish kinda steals the show tbh, way cleaner than I expected.

Glad to see that adjustable aperture is on both the 18 pro and max. Rumor was it was only on the max. I’m going pro, same battery life as on the 17 pro max.

I've been rocking a 13 Pro Max since 2021 and just decided to finally upgrade to a 18 Pro Max. I'm about to travel to San Diego for the first time in November and I think there's no better time to upgrade for the battery, camera upgrades, etc for that journey.

I’m not currently in the market to upgrade or update. My 16 Pro Max is still more than I need. If I were to upgrade, it would be the 18 Pro Max.the extra heft wouldn’t bother me. It alerts you to the fact that you’re not carrying it. Not so easy to leave hone or the office with out it!

I think the pro maxes crossed the 'Heft' threshold for me last year with the 17PM. I have a 17 Pro last year and am going to keep it, other than quite liking the maroon colour there is no reason to upgrade this year, besides orange still rules IMO.

Maybe when the DUO becomes a STUD, I'll joyfully purchase it. I have a 16 Pro and can't wait to upgrade. My verdict = DUO ain't ready yet - Pro Max needs Shaq's hands - 18 Pro, in black, will soon be in use!

It’s different enough for me! Bigger battery, better processor, larger vapor chamber, better camera in low light, able to receive better signal in rural areas….all I need to upgrade.

There is always going to be people complaining about how little has been changed compared to last years phone but, if you have last years phone than this phone is not for you, nor are you apples main target audience. New phones are targeted towards people who have a phone 2-3+ years old where all the new features and improvements are considerable compared to the older model you have like for me i still have the 13 pro max and for me theres a big jump of upgrades so it makes since to get one. phones are not meant to be changed every year so if you already have the 17 just keep it for another year or so and dont expect every new model to be some kind of great life changing innovation.

Absolute majority of people won’t care and actually don’t understand what variable aperture means, as well as actual difference between last year and this year chip. Larger battery - yes, helpful. And should be advertised heavily in combo with larger vapor chamber and a new chip. Emphasis on variable aperture is wrong and youtubers must do a better job with these for their subscribers. Otherwise, same phone as 17 pro for the most part.

I’ve reached the same conclusion as you. I’ve been using Pro Max models for years, but I’m going to preorder the Pro this time around. Besides, I’m within reach of a charging source 95% of the day, so I really don’t understand this obsession with battery life

The thing is most of the people who will buy the 18Pro are coming from iPhone 13 or older.

I’m still using my iPhone 13. Planning to get the 18 Pro Max, for me it will gonna be such a ground breaking experience as coming from an older iPhone to a newer one with new features. Waiting for it, much excited. I don’t know much excitement one will get who uses a 16/17 Pro Max, any substantial difference if they can experience by using the 18 Pro Max

Forget about the Pro models, the regular iPhone 18 could be a beast and that’s following on from the 17 which is the best cheap flagship so far.

I’m upgrading from my 17 Pro just because I want the better battery of the 18 Pro. I think I can sell the 17 Pro for only $300-350 less than I paid and it will depreciate even more the 2nd year than the 1st. I’m going with Glacier, and it will be nice to have a light color after years of darker blues.

I never had an iphone in my entire 37 years on this planet 😂. I have not ever imagined that others destroyed this gracious phone for fun and durability tests 😢. I wish I had this phone before my b-day Dec 3😊

I know that some people (not me) seem to absolutely hate this new AI stuff but for people who will be using the new Siri AI in its context-aware personal assistant mode (e.g. "Where did Judy say we were meeting tomorrow?", "How do I get there on public transport and what time will I need to leave?" etc) then judging by various YouTube demos of that sort of stuff in the iOS beta releases I'm thinking that the new A20 chip might be a massively important feature for those users, in fact for me perhaps even effectively (although not literally) a minimum requirement. I say that because the delays I saw in those various YouTube videos before Siri responded to those sorts of questions was in my opinion long enough to be really frustrating to the extent of even putting me off using it. Of course a lot of that slowness could have been down to algorithms not fully optimised, lots of debugging code still in the software etc but if an A20-enabled device shaves even just 30% off those typical response times that would be a massive plus for me and probably get the response times down to a just about acceptable delay for me. (I actually expect the A20 to do a fair bit better than that. Doubling the number of NPU cores should halve the time to first token for a local LLM and Apple is claiming 40% faster GPU performance plus it's also added neural accelerators into each CPU core as well as the ones already in each GPU core so subsequent token generation rates should be a lot higher too.) If all of that comes together then halving the response times for Siri responding vs last years model could be a pretty big deal for some people and for people who didn't upgrade last year the performance improvement is going to be even more dramatic.

Apple user since 1999 here (the eggsy imac)…and someone that has been using iphone since 2007, i stop upgrading iphone every year since the X as the improvements/upgrades are TOO minimal after that. They just put some fancy words to make it sounded big, marketing tactics….its no longer about enjoying stuffs but more about always having the latest. Met a lot of users who has the latest n brag about it but has no idea about the specs and tech inside it….symbol of status. I prefer apple back when only mac users knowhow to use it

I don't know about the chip, midrangers now a days are good enough unless you do something different.

I’d be upgrading from a 12 Pro Max whose battery is saying send help so an 18 Pro Max would be worth it for me especially since the prices have more or less held in the last five and a half years.

WARNING, I might have found the Duo deal-breaker: Both 18 Pros have this advanced heat guard built into it, called: Vapor Chamber technology. Now even better than the 17 Pros. My iPhone 14 overheats really bad in the car, in the hot months(85-90+ degrees). It’s a big problem. It slows down so much that it’s like dial up and I have to place my 14 in front of the AC vent just to try to cool it down, so it can run at fast speeds again. AND the Duo could overheat a lot too. The Duo does not have that advanced heat technology! Which could be a big problem for me in the car! But besides this one issue, I really like the Duo! But the heat could be awful! It’s a big phone! The heat could be catastrophic! The Duo is made out of Titanium, which means that it’s gonna over heat!! Guaranteed in work horse situations, in high summer temps! The 18 Pros are made out of Aluminum, and with more advanced Vapor Chamber technology than last year! So I think I need to choose the 18 Pro, with 512BG of space. The Max is too big and heavy. Plus I will use my 14 as a secondary tethering devise. Ive been doing that since 2020. I always carry 2 iPhones with me. Double battery life, and double multi tasking. One for calls, and one for internet use. When one has 20% left, I charge it and then work on the one that is 100% in battery. 2 phones works very well for me and I highly recommend this work flow set up! Its amazing! If you already have a work horse lifestyle, you are going to need an iPhone that is an even bigger work horse! Which will be the Pro line!!!

I went to the 17pro down from the promax which had been my default version for years. I find it fits in the pocket better, whilst I haven’t felt it any lesser a device.

I was considering the Duo... Only issue is while phones are getting so much more expensive, the warranties backing them are still at one year. With the number of display issues, earpiece issues and more plaguing iPhones, I would expect Apple to better stand behind their products. In my country the Duo costs $3100 to start and apple care only extends the coverage by 1 more year at $500. $3500 USD for 2 years of use (and hopefully a little more?) is a LOT of commitment.

Ordered a Pro the minute I could here in Australia. Been using the 15 Pro for a couple of years and although it’s been compatible, the use of Apple Intelligence on it absolutely destroys my battery daily. So much I’m charging it three or four times a day. Looking forward to having a bright and shiny iPhone on day 1!

Not even photographers will be able to see the camera improvements. I’m fine sticking with last year’s Pro Max until the redesign next year.

I went from 14 Pro to S25 Ultra to just ordered a 18 Pro Max. Liked the S25 Ultra, but the wide photo camera was super glitchy and won't adjust right, just keeps on zooming like crazy as well as a lot of apps that I use for work were not very well optimized for Android. So happy to go back to iPhone

It's not new that the pro has good battery life - the 17 pro battery is amazing and a crazy improvement over the 16 pro. I go through double the charge cycles on my 16 pro compared to the 17 pro both at 100% capacity

The Duo is an even bigger waste of money than I expected. I was not expecting a horrible matte interior screen. The interior screen is so bad, you’re better off keeping whatever iPhone you have (better front screen than the Duo) and getting an iPad mini, which has a far better screen than the interior on the Duo - and you save €1,800… I honestly don’t know who would buy it, unless you simply have money to burn.

I've always had the PM but needed a second phone for work so I picked a 17 and it's much easier to hold them my 16PM... I might go for just the Pro this year for my main device.

Checking 16 lineup I liked a lot the camera button, I miss it a lot at my 15th and it is one of the few reasons to upgrade the phone. Interesting - during the whole last year the camera button changes was one of the main subjects of the rumors about 18 pro. Now, after release, any review doesn't even mention it like it doesn't exist anymore.

My phone company is giving me $1,024 on a special promotion for my 16 pro max trade in so I’m getting the 18 pro max. I don’t need it and have even said in the past I won’t upgrade for a couple more years but only having to pay a small amount i figured why not lol

To be honest the bokeh produced by the variable aperture thing is unnoticeable/minimal due to the very small physical sensor itself. Only improvements in the iPhone 18 pro are the narrow dynamic distraction, c2 modem , vapor chamber and the new processor. Everything else is less noticeable.

My biggest gripe is the premium price for an aluminum phone when they were previously titanium. I have NEVER had my 15 Pro overheat so bad that I wished it weren’t titanium. Keep the titanium but add the vapor chamber and then it’ll feel premium in my opinion.

Last year was my first year of going with the smaller pro phone and my biggest gripe is the battery life. There are times now where I’m having to charge my 17 pro twice within a 24 hour period. And my battery health is already down to 94%. So if the 18 Pro has the same on screen time as the 17 Pro Max then I will definitely be trading in my 17 for the 18.

That’s a decent light reduction with that variable aperture. It would be nearly equivalent to increasing the shutter speed from 100 to about 800 on a fixed aperture. I wish they did more though; even going to f/4 outdoors will likely not eliminate the need for an ND filter while shooting professional video outside, they should’ve pushed it to f/8 or f/11 and got rid of all the little stops in between.

I have a 5 year old Android phone with a failing battery. I switched to Android because I was tired of iPhone batteries not lasting the length of my contract. The 18 ProMax seems like a great way to return to the Apple fold.

I switched for the first time from the 17 pro max to the 18 pro. My 17 pro max was so heavy that I hurt my smallest finger in holding it. 18 pro is still rather heavy but much less compared to the 17 pro max and 18 pro max.

Bonkers that people are just hyper focused on the Duo when there are so many problems with the product line as a whole.... but people are just happy to hold an Apple device I guess regardless of what it costs or what it does.

Such small incremental improvements tells me the ceiling for these phones is approaching. Differences are getting too small to even notice now for the average person.

I have a 14 pro max, and really been looking to upgrade I am so tempted by the duo! While spec wise technically the 18 pro/max is a little better ( mainly the camera department and faceid) the duo looks fantastic! and for me it would be a new experience in a familiar setting, while the 18 pro would be the same old phone with performance upgrades and a different chasis and color. Although my only real caveat is that the duo so far doesnt have an option to move the UX to the left side of the screen instead.

The problem is there’s literally not that much different. I’m still using my iPhone 14 Pro Max I got new when it came out and don’t feel I’m missing anything. The only reason I watch the apple events is hope for a 32” iMac.

To be fair I've never had an issue with the 17 Pros battery life, and wouldn't upgrade just for that. But I'm tempted by the camera upgrade and also I like the new sky blue colour - and hopefully the 17 Pros cases will also fit the 18 Pros too. Also my fave previous iPhones that I've used the longest have been the 6 and the 12 Pro - so the next in that x6 series for me is the 18 Pro!

I’m so tempted to go with the Duo this time, having had most of the iPhone models since the very first in 2007 that have basically been the same structurally. My only moments of pause? The Duo doesn’t have FaceID or an Action Button, as well as some of its camera features not being quite as great as the Pro. I’m SO used to using FaceID. And although I still only use my Action Button for a silencer, I am very used to having that and can turn it on from my pocket without even looking at the phone. But the Pro is in many ways a little of a boring update. I also have a 15 Pro, and like the titanium outer body. I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the durability of the all aluminum models. Sigh…so I just don’t know, but I’m overdue for an upgrade.

I have the 15 pro max and I was an idiot and used a Temu fast charger that was bought for me and within 2 weeks my battery swelled and I needed to get the battery replaced the battery had also put pressure on my motherboard so my phone runs not the greatest now so it only made sense to upgrade to the 18 pro max. I do take a lot of photos of nature with my phone so I’m looking forward to the better camera and that for me makes it worth it.

I really want the 18 Pro Burgundy. I only got the 17 Pro because I ran out of storage. I was going to wait until that happened though. I used to upgrade every year or 2 after the 7 Plus, XR, 11, 14 Plus, 15 Plus, 16 Plus and now the 17 Pro.

I am upgrading from the 16 pro max to the 18 pro max, not just because of the black colour option, but to me more important the battery upgrade and the connectivity options specially when you live in an area where the signal is not as good, plus you get better quality camera improvements, it might sounds little upgrades but they make a big difference to day to day in my case.

Switching from a 14 Pro to an 18 Pro. Honestly, I wish I could wait another year, but with battery health at 76%, paying ~$120 for a replacement only to get less trade-in value next year doesn’t make much sense. but I’m most excited for USB-C and a battery that actually lasts all day (for a while). 😂

I live in Florida and this vapor chamber is what we really need here because my current 15 pro max dim its screen to minimum after 3 min of outdoor use 🫠 and finally I can get small PRO because it has nice battery. So I was not disappointed with this year iphone lineup at all. And also, I recommend getting the 512GB version because I guess we will have to download a local AI model, which will cost us more than 50GB.

I jumped for the 17 from the 13 thinking the widest aperture would be the same as on the 17. As such, I thought the variable aperture would only help in daytime shooting. Boy was I wrong!

I’m actually downgrading this year. Have the 17 Pro Max, but i’ve decided to go with this years 18 pro in black. Will be my last upgrade in quite a few years. I have had 3 pro Max phones and they all felt heavy bulky and big, impossible for 1 hand use. So it think i will be greatly satisfied with the smaller 18 pro, still the same phone, except for the screen size.

The base iPhone Duo is $3000 CDN. I'll be upgrading my 12 Pro Max to an 18 Pro Max this year. Looking forward to even better new Siri functionality in iOS 27.

I know you didn’t mention it, but I’d like you to compare the speaker quality on the new Watch ultra, see if calls are clearer and if the speakers have been upgraded any. I have the Watch ultra 2 and I don’t even try to talk on my watch because the volume(even at max) is so low. I usually always just connect my buds to take calls. I’m hoping eventually they make the speakers good enough where I don’t have to do that.

they need to start making these lighter. My hopes go to the new Air model. Because, in the end, very few users care about anything on a spec sheet. Now my dilemma is, is it worth paying $400 and upgrading the 17 pro max to the 18 pro max and getting a newer phone withe a color change plus the small upgrades. I do love the burgundy color.

Honestly I’m tempted to get a silver 18 pro max but at the same time, I love my desert titanium 16 pro max. I still think it’s the best looking iPhone ever and it still has 100% battery life. The 18 just doesn’t feel like that much of an upgrade. My phone never gets hot and the battery lasts plenty long enough for me.

Hello bro, I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max that I’ve been using for the last 6 years. I bought it in 2020, and to be honest, it’s starting to feel a bit slow now. The original battery is also down to 74% battery health. Do you think it’s worth replacing the battery through Apple and continuing to use the same phone for another 2 years? I’m currently running iOS 26.6.1. I’ve also noticed a slight reduction in camera and sound quality over time. What’s your honest opinion? Would you recommend replacing the battery and keeping it, or would it be better to upgrade to a newer iPhone?

As an android person that uses both ios and android. Prefer android. I'd say there are a lot of meaningful upgrades that would warrant me to try. Over 4000 single core score on a phone is insane. Apple needs to design something to compete with dex atlesat a proper desktop mode to dock your iPhone given all that power with a pc like interface.

i have a 13 pro, the 17 line was ideal for an upgrade for me but i held off, not sure why, but now im going to get the 18 pro, its slightly better than the 17, not enough for someone using a 17 already sure, but from a 13 pro the battery is insane as an upgrade, as well all the other stuff this feels like the best upgrade if you've got an older model, plus i can get the 18 pro for like 875 gbp with a discount which basically makes it a better deal than any android i can find at the same performance

Aperture, ISO, shutter speed. Pick one, and the phone will sort the other two out. The perceived exposure will always (should always) look more or less the same. Pros and cons, of course. Though most people won't notice. And the camera, on auto, will always default to f1.48 because why not?

I hit a deer on my motorcycle a week after I got my I phone 17 pro max. Was very lucky, it flung out of my holder and skated across the highway. It was night and I couldn’t find it so the next morning I went back with the find my app. It popped out of the case a little enough to gash the metal but it was mostly ok!
