My first car was $1200. What a time we live in.

it’ll obviously be boring for those already with the 16-17 pros, it makes the biggest difference for those with older iphones, we’re at a point where unless you have the disposable income to upgrade every year, it’s worth upgrading every 4-5 years to actually experience a big upgrade.

I went from a pro max to a pro, had it for three years or more and liked it but went straight back to a pro max next phone I bought. The extra screen size is handy for videos, maps, slightly bigger keyboard whatever. Had no trouble adjusting back up to the larger phone.

Your pro vs pro max discussion is spot on. Muscle memory is a bugger for me though. I tried using the 17 pro for a week and I just kept dropping the phone constantly. The camera plateau was also always in the way. The narrower screen also makes the typing experience much worse and the ui feels so cramped. I guess I’ll carry a brick in my pocket once again. Battery life better be really impressive.

Still on my 6 year old iPhone 11 with 73% battery health. Looking to upgrade soon. Not happy with the 100.00 price increase on all phones. I pay cash for my unlocked phone and Apple charges another 30.00 fee for the iPhone 17. I use Mint Mobile.

It’s different enough for me! Bigger battery, better processor, larger vapor chamber, better camera in low light, able to receive better signal in rural areas….all I need to upgrade.

Forget about the Pro models, the regular iPhone 18 could be a beast and that’s following on from the 17 which is the best cheap flagship so far.

I’d be upgrading from a 12 Pro Max whose battery is saying send help so an 18 Pro Max would be worth it for me especially since the prices have more or less held in the last five and a half years.

Absolute majority of people won’t care or actually don’t understand what variable aperture means, as well as actual difference between last year and this year chip. Larger battery - yes, helpful. And should be advertised heavily in combo with larger vapor chamber and a new chip. Otherwise, same phone as 17 pro for the most part.

Funnily enough, the only biggest upgrade for me is the black color over the less than stellar selections from 17 PRO series last year.

Hello bro, I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max that I’ve been using for the last 6 years. I bought it in 2020, and to be honest, it’s starting to feel a bit slow now. The original battery is also down to 74% battery health. Do you think it’s worth replacing the battery through Apple and continuing to use the same phone for another 2 years? I’m currently running iOS 26.6.1. I’ve also noticed a slight reduction in camera and sound quality over time. What’s your honest opinion? Would you recommend replacing the battery and keeping it, or would it be better to upgrade to a newer iPhone?

I've always had the PM but needed a second phone for work so I picked a 17 and it's much easier to hold them my 16PM... I might go for just the Pro this year for my main device.

It's not new that the pro has good battery life - the 17 pro battery is amazing and a crazy improvement over the 16 pro. I go through double the charge cycles on my 16 pro compared to the 17 pro both at 100% capacity

Checking 16 lineup I liked a lot the camera button, I miss it a lot at my 15th and it is one of the few reasons to upgrade the phone. Interesting - during the whole last year the camera button changes was one of the main subjects of the rumors about 18 pro. Now, after release, any review doesn't even mention it like it doesn't exist anymore.

I think the pro maxes crossed the 'Heft' threshold for me last year with the 17PM. I have a 17 Pro last year and am going to keep it, other than quite liking the maroon colour there is no reason to upgrade this year, besides orange still rules IMO.

As an android person that uses both ios and android. Prefer android. I'd say there are a lot of meaningful upgrades that would warrant me to try. Over 4000 single core score on a phone is insane. Apple needs to design something to compete with dex atlesat a proper desktop mode to dock your iPhone given all that power with a pc like interface.

I was considering the Duo... Only issue is while phones are getting so much more expensive, the warranties backing them are still at one year. With the number of display issues, earpiece issues and more plaguing iPhones, I would expect Apple to better stand behind their products. In my country the Duo costs $3100 to start and apple care only extends the coverage by 1 more year at $500. $3500 USD for 2 years of use (and hopefully a little more?) is a LOT of commitment.

That’s a decent light reduction with that variable aperture. It would be nearly equivalent to increasing the shutter speed from 100 to about 800 on a fixed aperture. I wish they did more though; even going to f/4 outdoors will likely not eliminate the need for an ND filter while shooting professional video outside, they should’ve pushed it to f/8 or f/11 and got rid of all the little stops in between.

The Duo is an even bigger waste of money than I expected. I was not expecting a horrible matte interior screen. The interior screen is so bad, you’re better off keeping whatever iPhone you have (better front screen than the Duo) and getting an iPad mini, which has a far better screen than the interior on the Duo - and you save €1,800… I honestly don’t know who would buy it, unless you simply have money to burn.

The big elephant in the room is next years 20th anniversary phones. All rumours right now but you'd think Apple have a big redesign planned like they did with the iPhone X. In which case, unless your phone is unusable, you really should wait a year.

The problem is there’s literally not that much different. I’m still using my iPhone 14 Pro Max I got new when it came out and don’t feel I’m missing anything. The only reason I watch the apple events is hope for a 32” iMac.

I know that some people (not me) seem to absolutely hate this new AI stuff but for people who will be using the new Siri AI in its context-aware personal assistant mode (e.g. "Where did Judy say we were meeting tomorrow?", "How do I get there on public transport and what time will I need to leave?" etc) then judging by various YouTube demos of that sort of stuff in the iOS beta releases I'm thinking that the new A20 chip might be a massively important feature for those users, in fact for me perhaps even effectively (although not literally) a minimum requirement. I say that because the delays I saw in those various YouTube videos before Siri responded to those sorts of questions was in my opinion long enough to be really frustrating to the extent of even putting me off using it. Of course a lot of that slowness could have been down to algorithms not fully optimised, lots of debugging code still in the software etc but if an A20-enabled device shaves even just 30% off those typical response times that would be a massive plus for me and probably get the response times down to a just about acceptable delay for me. (I actually expect the A20 to do a fair bit better than that. Doubling the number of NPU cores should halve the time to first token for a local LLM and Apple is claiming 40% faster GPU performance plus it's also added neural accelerators into each CPU core as well as the ones already in each GPU core so subsequent token generation rates should be a lot higher too.) If all of that comes together then halving the response times for Siri responding vs last years model could be a pretty big deal for some people and for people who didn't upgrade last year the performance improvement is going to be even more dramatic.

I use to like the PLUS AND MAX sizes cause I liked having something big in my hand. But I switched when I got the 15 iPhone and now I feel like if I go back to the MAX I’m gonna feel it bad

To be fair I've never had an issue with the 17 Pros battery life, and wouldn't upgrade just for that. But I'm tempted by the camera upgrade and also I like the new sky blue colour - and hopefully the 17 Pros cases will also fit the 18 Pros too. Also my fave previous iPhones that I've used the longest have been the 6 and the 12 Pro - so the next in that x6 series for me is the 18 Pro!

I have a iPhone 15 pro max and I’m debating on going for the 18 pro or the 18 pro max.. I kinda like the fact the battery life is better on the bigger one but also at the same time it would be nice to be able to text with one hand lol. I’m so torn. Not sure what to preorder.

Phone price dips £50, storage floor doubles. 2021 — another £50 cut on the Pro. Cheapest Pro launch of the whole run: £949. 2022 — the ugly year. Weak pound + inflation. Pro jumps £150 to £1,099 even though the US dollar price stayed $999. 2023–2024 — Apple walks the UK Pro back to £999 and holds it for two years. Pro Max stays £1,199 but the Max’s cheapest tier becomes 256GB. 2025 — Pro goes to £1,099 and the cheap 128GB Pro disappears. Same dollar/pound number, more storage. 2026 (announced 9 Sept 2026) — another £100 on both Pro and Pro Max: £1,199 / £1,299.

To be honest the bokeh produced by the variable aperture thing is unnoticeable/minimal due to the very small physical sensor itself. Only improvements in the iPhone 18 pro are the narrow dynamic distraction, c2 modem , vapor chamber and the new processor. Everything else is less noticeable.

I switched from andriod google pixel to the 17 pro this year. Apart from the battery life the phone has disappointed me to me honest. I feel apple hasn’t done enough to keep up and the prices are ridiculous i will be switching back next year if google makes a better phone.

I live in Florida and this vapor chamber is what we really need here because my current 15 pro max dim its screen to minimum after 3 min of outdoor use 🫠 and finally I can get small PRO because it has nice battery. So I was not disappointed with this year iphone lineup at all. And also, I recommend getting the 512GB version because I guess we will have to download a local AI model, which will cost us more than 50GB.

Apple user since 1999 here (the eggsy imac)…and someone that has been using iphone since 2007, i stop upgrading iphone every year since the X as the improvements/upgrades are TOO minimal after that. They just put some fancy words to make it sounded big, marketing tactics….its no longer about enjoying stuffs but more about always having the latest. Met a lot of users who has the latest n brag about it but has no idea about the specs and tech inside it….symbol of status. I prefer apple back when only mac users knowhow to use it

Why aluminum instead of Titanium or Stainless steel if the IPhone 18 pro Max is aluminum yet heavier, I thought all the crying from some users was that the more premium medals were heavier. Result we end up with a cheaper less durable, less premium in Material, heavy & still more expensive, ie no positive tradeoffs.

As I said, smartphones are becoming very expensive, so unfortunately, I have to learn to keep my phone for at least five years. I upgraded from a Galaxy S5 to an S7 Edge after barely two years with the S5. After the S7 Edge, I upgraded again after two years to an S9 Plus, and then from the S9 Plus to an S10 Plus after just one year. I used the S10 Plus for two years before switching to a OnePlus 8T. After that, I went for an S22 Ultra two years later, followed by an S24 Ultra two years after that, and now I have a Galaxy S26 Ultra. I have spent so much money on mobile phones that it is hilarious; therefore, this time I will keep my 512 GB Sky Blue Galaxy S26 Ultra for at least five years, or even until it stops working entirely.

Phones feel so boring now and Im not even sure its completely to do with the phones themselves. While phone tech is pretty much at the mature stage even stuff like folding screens isnt really groundbreaking anymore, I think the feeling comes more from a lot of what we use phones for becoming worse e.g. twitter and instagram feeling bad to use, tiktoks gotten worse, facebook is garbage, delivery apps and ride economy apps are expensive to use, google search is worse, AI is everywhere in search results, AI stuff all over youtube and social media, theres probably dozens of other examples of enshittification. I kinda struggle now to imagine a phone that actually excites me in any way or I think is particularly cool, the closest to that are the chinese flagship phones like the xiaomi and oppo.

Always annoys me when Brit tech reviewers don’t talk about the battery difference between the US and UK. US battery for example is 45hrs video playback, UK is 43hrs video playback. Huge difference.

Right? . . . I’m smelling bs right now); reduced over heating, and . . . The camera settings to reduce the size of photos when I want a basic photo. I don’t need a 9 gig photo of a room. Anyway, I need a new phone and I refused to get one until 18 - didn’t see a reason - with this review, I barely do. Low light is good on 12 pro for what I need - I’m not a pro photographer. So yah, been watching reviews hoping for something exciting but no. . . Still I’m getting one.

I went to the 17pro down from the promax which had been my default version for years. I find it fits in the pocket better, whilst I haven’t felt it any lesser a device.

The exterior looks like cheap boring plastic. Aluminum isn’t as stiff as the titanium body on iPhone 15 Pro. The only tempting feature with iPhone 18 Pro is it’s aperture. So it’s more tempting to stay with my iPhone 15 Pro, which is smaller and more comfy to use, and wait for iPhone 19 Pro next year. They should have released an Air 2, the screen size on the Air is 6.5 and was a perfect size, compared to the Pro 6.3/6.9 which are too small and too big

The problem is they are very expensive, you can do far better for less with other brands, with silicon carbon battery; and the 50% more light is stupid - half a stop is very little indeed. And still better on competitors. Your supposed scientific test stopping down by more than one stop was downright misleading. Oh wow, 16 grams heavier, better hit the gym. I never understood people who switch phones every year. Personally, I upgrade every 3-4 years, but to each his own. I just don't see the benefit in yearly iterations, so for me going from the 15 pro max (which is still a fantastic machine) to the 18 pro max is absolutely worth it, even if only for the battery and camera upgrade. Here in the Balkans we don't have the cool upgrade plans from mobile operators, like the UK, US or other countries. There is something similar, but it's very shitty, so less frequent upgrades really do make more sense.

It may be boring if you’re going from 17 to 18 but for someone like me going from a 13 Pro to the 18 Pro, it is certainly NOT boring!
